Erasmus+ Training in Cyprus – CLIL and Language Development

This summer our teachers took part in an inspiring two–week Erasmus+ mobility in Cyprus, dedicated to both CLIL methodology (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and intensive language development. The program was designed to strengthen bilingual teaching practices and improve teachers’ confidence in using English in the classroom.

CLIL Training

During the CLIL course, teachers discovered how language learning can be naturally integrated with subject content. Each day focused on a different discipline – from mathematics and history, through physical education and art, to science. Practical workshops showed how to:

  • scaffold lessons so that all learners can succeed,
  • adapt audiovisual materials to support content and language learning,
  • integrate the four skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) into engaging projects,
  • design and deliver full CLIL lessons with clear objectives.

One of the highlights was preparing and teaching our own CLIL lessons, which allowed participants to test new strategies in practice and receive valuable feedback.

Language Courses

Parallel to the CLIL training, some teachers attended intensive English courses. These sessions focused on real-life classroom communication, role-plays, group discussions, and simulations. Activities such as task-based workshops and integrated skills practice (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) helped teachers strengthen fluency, expand vocabulary, and refine pronunciation.

A particularly valuable aspect was the focus on lesson planning with the CLIL framework and peer review sessions, where teachers collaborated, exchanged ideas, and reflected on their progress.

Reflections and Outcomes

The Erasmus+ mobility was not only a chance to gain new knowledge but also to experience international collaboration and cultural exchange. Teachers returned from Cyprus inspired, motivated, and equipped with practical tools that will enrich bilingual education in our school.

The key outcomes include:

  • a better understanding of CLIL methodology and its classroom applications,
  • increased confidence in teaching through English,
  • new lesson plans and teaching strategies ready to be implemented,
  • stronger teamwork and collaboration among teachers.

Looking Ahead

We are excited to gradually implement the ideas and strategies gained in Cyprus into our bilingual classes. CLIL will help our students learn subject content and English simultaneously, providing authentic opportunities to use language in meaningful contexts.

This Erasmus+ project has been a truly transformative experience, and we look forward to continuing our journey towards more innovative, engaging, and effective teaching.
