Saturday was entirely dedicated to activities organized by the host families. Each student spent the day differently, depending on the family’s plans and traditions, which made the experience even more authentic and unique.
Many students explored nearby towns and villages, admired the beautiful landscapes of the Douro region, or visited local attractions together with their host families. Others spent time walking through local markets, tasting regional products, or simply enjoying conversations and everyday family life.
One of the most valuable aspects of the day was the opportunity to observe Portuguese culture from the inside — learning about family relationships, daily habits, meal traditions, and the relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle. Students also had the chance to try traditional Portuguese cuisine, including local pastries, homemade dishes, and regional specialties.
The day helped everyone become more independent, open-minded, and confident while strengthening bonds with their host families.
