Day 4 – Discovering Portuguese Culture and European Values

Monday began with a warm welcome at the Municipal Auditorium of Alijó. Students and teachers from Poland, Bulgaria, Slovenia, and Spain officially started an unforgettable week together under the project “Feel Alijó 2026: Living European Values.”

During the opening ceremony, participants were welcomed by Headmaster Carlos Peixoto and representatives of the Municipality of Alijó. We also learned more about the Portuguese educational system and the unique character of the Douro region.

One of the highlights of the morning was the presentation session, where each country and region introduced themselves. It was a great opportunity to discover cultural similarities and differences, share traditions, and strengthen international friendships.

In the afternoon, we explored the charming village of Favaios. We visited a traditional bakery, where we learned how local bread is made, and a cooperative winery famous for the region’s wines. The visit to the Bread and Wine Museum allowed us to better understand the history and traditions of this unique area.
