Thursday was dedicated to exploring the natural and cultural beauty of the Douro region.
We travelled to Vila Real, where we visited the magnificent Casa de Mateus, an impressive 18th-century palace surrounded by beautiful gardens. The visit allowed us to learn more about Portuguese history, architecture, and aristocratic traditions.
We also explored important landmarks in Vila Real and enjoyed free time for lunch and discovering the city atmosphere.
In the afternoon, we visited breathtaking viewpoints in the Douro Valley, including Sta. Marinha viewpoint in Castedo do Douro and Casal de Loivos viewpoint. The landscapes of vineyards and rolling hills were unforgettable.
Another special experience was visiting a family wine production, where we learned about traditional methods of wine making and the importance of viticulture in the region’s culture and economy.
The day ended with cultural activities and more opportunities to connect with our international friends.
